Born in Durban and quite chuffed with the place to date :)
Green valleys and hills in summer and the swirling mists in winter create the ambience that puts any piece of wood at risk of being carved by me. I see Faeries and Hobgoblins in every dead tree and fallen branch. Dragons waiting to be brought to life too.
I have never had any formal art training - just picked up the tools one day and carved my first Dragon. Haven’t stopped since. I did work with clay for a time - I still do - but there is simply something about wood. The roughness of the bark and the colours which appear when the piece
is completed and sealed.
My studio is large and bright and airy :) There are normally about 4 to 5 carvings at various stages of completion. Whilst working on one I will figure the difficulties I am experiencing with the other.
It is also a right brained tendency to become bored with just one task really :)
Many of the pieces have been nabbed by happy clients and a few are works in progress - hope you enjoy them all.
